At about the 6 month mark of our Strategic Planning goals, some things are well under way, others have yet to get off the ground.
Goal 1- Purpose Statement- Council has been talking about possible statements, and what constitutes the purpose of our congregation. We have made some progress, and have focused our conversation on one such possibility, which happens to be the return of a tagline that appeared on newsletters in years past-
“A community of the forgiven, sharing God’s love and welcome.”
What do you think? Is this (or a variation of this) the official purpose of St. Johannes?
Goal 2- Youth Events- Not much happening on this front- the St. Clara Supernovas 4-H club is in the process of reorganizing, and we have two confirmands in the study of the faith with regular classes.
Goal 3- Church Signage- the sign from out front of the church has been updated, it just has to be installed- but that involves posts and frame. We also now know that the sign in West Union is able to be moved to a more visible position- we just need someone to do it! You could be that someone!
Goal 4- Bible Study- Our weekly worship has become a more direct effort to be more Biblically aware, and so has our adult Christian Education time before the service. We’re well on our way in following the Narrative Lectionary, taking a single story per week in following the whole story of the Scriptures from Abraham through Paul- and looking at how we fit into the story of God’s interaction with God’s People.
Goal 5- Prayer- In our weekly bulletins, there is now a section for daily prayer concerns for ministries of the Lutheran Church both domestic and international. We have had one prayer workshop, and will be discussing prayer during our Advent midweek gatherings this year.
There is more to come, and you can be a part of it- just plug in where you feel called!
In Christ, +Pr Kyle Hayes
